Search Tazewell County Inmate Records

Tazewell County inmate records for current jail custody are searched through the regional jail system rather than a sheriff-operated county jail database. A Tazewell County jail roster search should begin with the current-inmates roster for the regional authority, then branch to phone, VINE, court, state prison, federal, or immigration sources when the person is not listed. The record may show booking and charge details, but formal court charges and sentenced-prison custody use different systems.

Tazewell County Jail Roster Overview

Tazewell County inmate records begin with the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority. SWVRJA operates the Tazewell Facility at 115 Court Street and also operates Abingdon, Duffield, and Haysi. Its current facility inmates page is the official public entry point for the authority roster. The link opens the Public Safety Cloud JailTracker roster, which is used for current SWVRJA jail custody.

This regional structure matters. A Tazewell County arrest will often point to the Tazewell Facility, but the search path is not limited to that building. A result may show another SWVRJA facility, or the person may have been released, transferred, sentenced to VADOC, held federally, or involved in a court record that no longer appears as a current jail roster entry.

Use the Tazewell County Inmate Roster

The roster is the fastest official channel when someone is believed to be in current SWVRJA custody. Search by name first, then use any visible booking, facility, case, charge, bond, or status details to confirm the match. If the page fails to load, go back to the SWVRJA current-inmates page and reopen the roster from that official link.

  1. Open the SWVRJA current-inmates page and follow the link to locate current inmates.
  2. Enter the last name first, then add the first name if several people match.
  3. Check whether the roster shows the facility, because SWVRJA has four jail sites.
  4. Open the profile or detail view for booking number, charges, court date, bond, warrant, case number, and custody status if those fields are public.
  5. If there is no result, check spelling, release status, VADOC, BOP, ICE, Virginia VINE, and Virginia courts.

Tazewell County Roster Search Fields

The roster application inspection found name-search and result-field language but did not expose a live sample inmate record in text. Use the fields below as application-supported fields, not a promise that every field appears in the public configuration.

Tazewell County Inmate Profile Fields

A SWVRJA profile can support jail identity, charges, bond, and court-related fields. Treat a booking charge as an intake or arrest-side fact unless it is confirmed in court. For formal case status after charges are filed, use the Virginia court portals and the Tazewell court clerk contacts.

Tazewell County Custody Search Channels

The roster is only one access channel. If a name does not appear, the next path depends on custody type. The Tazewell Facility can answer jail information questions at (276) 582-0650. Virginia VINE gives custody notifications. Virginia courts show charges and court dates after a case opens. VADOC, BOP, and ICE cover different custody systems.

Tazewell County Jail Facilities

SWVRJA's contact page lists the authority facilities together. The Tazewell Facility is the primary local jail address, but a regional roster user should understand all four SWVRJA jail sites. Pocahontas State Correctional Center is listed separately because it is a VADOC prison.

Tazewell County Booking Process

A booking begins when a Tazewell County deputy, town police officer, Virginia State Police trooper, another agency, or a court order sends a person into jail custody. Staff record identity, custody reason, charges or holds, warrant or case numbers, property, booking-photo and fingerprint steps, medical or mental-health screening, and classification. The public roster becomes useful after the person is entered and visible in the SWVRJA system.

Bond and court timing are local. Tazewell General District Court lists bonded arraignments, inmate arraignments, and bond hearings on the 2nd and 4th Monday at 1:00 p.m. It also lists agency-specific dockets and felony cases on the 2nd and 4th Friday at 9:00 a.m. For the case side, use court records after a jail arrest.

Tazewell County Visitation Rules

SWVRJA uses Smart Communications video visitation. Sessions are monitored and recorded, must be scheduled at least 24 hours before the appointment, and may be set up to two weeks in advance. Visitors must be on the approved visitor list and must have valid ID. The official page listed onsite video visitation as suspended, so confirm current status before travel.

The official SWVRJA video visitation page provides the remote visit windows and rules.

Original ordinary mail is destroyed after scanning, so do not send irreplaceable documents or photos unless a copy can be destroyed.

Tazewell County Commissary Funds
