Duffield Facility Overview
Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority - Duffield Facility is one of four SWVRJA jail sites listed by the authority. It shares the current-inmate roster, Smart Communications systems, JailATM and kiosk deposit options, scanned mail rules, VINE notification path, and general regional jail service structure with Tazewell, Abingdon, and Haysi. That authority-wide setup is why a Tazewell County inmate search can require more than one facility page. A roster result may point to Duffield even when the arrest or court case is tied to another locality in the region.
Duffield holds adult male and female regional jail inmates from the SWVRJA service area. The research describes minimum, medium, and maximum custody levels for these regional jail facilities. In plain terms, this is jail custody for people awaiting court, serving local sentences, held on court orders, or assigned within the authority. It is not the same as VADOC state prison custody after felony sentencing. That distinction affects which locator, mail rules, phone vendor, and visiting process apply.
Duffield Inmate Population
The 2025 Duffield PREA audit is the best current population source in the research file. It reported designed facility capacity of 422, current population of 494, and 12-month average daily population of 463. It also reported that the facility had been over capacity in the prior 12 months and listed both women or girls and men or boys as the population designation. Older annual materials exist, but the 2025 PREA audit is the stronger source for capacity and current population because it is more recent.
| Measure | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 12-month ADP | 463 | SWVRJA Duffield PREA audit, 2025 |
| Over capacity in prior 12 months | Yes | SWVRJA Duffield PREA audit, 2025 |
| Population designation | Male and female | SWVRJA Duffield PREA audit, 2025 |
Search Duffield Custody
Current Duffield inmates are searched through the official SWVRJA current-inmates page. That page sends users to the Public Safety Cloud JailTracker roster for the entire authority. A person should be searched by name, then the result should be checked for the facility assignment. If the facility field says Duffield, use the Duffield mail and facility contact information below. If it says Tazewell, Abingdon, or Haysi, use the matching facility information instead.
- Open the SWVRJA current-inmates page and follow the official roster link.
- Search by last name, adding first name when needed.
- Check the profile or grid for the facility name before sending mail or money.
- Use VADOC, BOP, or ICE tools only when the person is no longer in SWVRJA jail custody.
The roster app inspection found support for fields such as first name, last name, booking number, facility, charges, court date, case number, warrant number, bond type, bond amount, counts, and status. Because the live public result rows were not captured in text, accurate wording is cautious. The roster may show those fields when configured, but court records remain the better source for formal case status and later charge changes.
Duffield Facility Contact
Use the Duffield phone number for facility-specific questions such as current custody, visit setup, mail routing, and whether lobby services are available. The research did not locate public counter hours, so calling first is the cleanest way to avoid a wasted trip. The physical address is separate from the legal mail and money-order address listed by the SWVRJA mail and funds instructions.

Duffield Video Visits
Duffield uses the SWVRJA Smart Communications video visit schedule. Remote visits are listed every day in morning, afternoon, and evening windows. Each remote visit is 15 minutes and costs $0.33 per minute. Scheduling must be done 24 hours ahead and can be done up to two weeks ahead. Visitors must be on the inmate's approved list and must have valid ID. Onsite video visitation was listed as suspended on the official page, so current onsite status needs to be confirmed with the facility.
| Visit Type | Days | Hours | Length | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Remote video | Monday-Sunday | 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. | 15 minutes | $0.33/minute |

Smart Communications visits are monitored and recorded. The inmate must stay in full uniform and face the camera. Visitors can lose access for disturbance, intoxication, lack of sufficient ID, or rule violations. Clothing restrictions include sheer or mesh material, exposed midriff or shoulders, short skirts above the stated limit, most shorts except minor children, and clothing that resembles jail or security uniforms.
Duffield Mail and Funds
Ordinary mail for Duffield is scanned by Smart Communications MailGuard. The sender must use the Duffield Jail P.O. box in Seminole, Florida, and must include the inmate's name and ID number. Original ordinary mail is destroyed after scanning. Legal correspondence and money orders do not use the scanned-mail P.O. box. They go to the facility-specific legal/mail address.

Duffield Booking Intake
Duffield intake follows the regional jail model. A person can arrive after arrest, warrant service, court commitment, or transfer inside the authority. Staff create the jail record, note the agency and custody reason, collect identifiers, inventory property, complete screening, and classify the person for housing. Classification is an internal custody and housing process. It does not prove guilt and does not replace a court record.
For users connected to Tazewell County, the key question is whether the person is physically assigned to Duffield or only appears in a court or arrest record. The SWVRJA roster answers current regional jail custody. Virginia court portals answer case status. VADOC answers sentenced state prison custody. Federal BOP and ICE tools answer the separate federal custody paths when those systems apply.
Duffield Records Context
Duffield jail records are SWVRJA records. Court files tied to a Tazewell County arrest are court records, and county sheriff or county government materials are requested from the proper county custodian. Because several offices can hold different records about the same person, a precise request should identify the person, date range, record type, and office likely to hold it.
Note: Facility assignment can change, so confirm Duffield custody before using the Duffield mail address or visit schedule.
