Haysi Facility Overview

Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority - Haysi Facility is operated by SWVRJA with the Tazewell, Abingdon, and Duffield sites. Its public inmate search role is regional. The official roster path is not a Haysi-only search page and not a Tazewell sheriff jail page. It is the SWVRJA current-inmates path, which can show people assigned to any of the authority's jail facilities. That is why Haysi belongs in the facility list even though the main county focus is Tazewell County.

The Haysi Facility holds adult jail inmates from the SWVRJA service area. Research materials support minimum, medium, and maximum local jail custody, plus male and female population designation. This means the facility may hold people waiting for court, serving local sentences, held on court orders, or assigned within the regional system. A person who has been sentenced to state prison should be searched through VADOC instead. A federal or immigration custody question may require BOP, USMS, or ICE channels.

Haysi Inmate Population

The 2025 Haysi PREA audit is the main current source for facility capacity and population. It reported designed capacity of 291, current population of 331, and 12-month average daily population of 307. It also recorded over-capacity status in the prior 12 months. Older 2020 annual report figures gave 254 males and 81 females confined at year-end, 1,106 male admissions and 521 female admissions, and average daily population of 220 males and 85 females. The newer 2025 audit should control for current capacity discussion.

Search Haysi Inmates

Current Haysi inmates are searched through the SWVRJA current-inmates page. The page links to the Public Safety Cloud JailTracker roster. A person searching for a Tazewell County inmate should still check the facility field because the authority roster can include Haysi, Duffield, Abingdon, and Tazewell. The roster app supports name search and may display booking number, facility, charges, court date, warrant number, bond fields, counts, and status when those fields are enabled for public view.

1. Use the official SWVRJA current-inmates page as the entry point.
2. Search by last name, then narrow with first name or spelling variants.
3. Confirm that the result is assigned to Haysi before using Haysi mail or contact details.
4. If the person is not listed, check VADOC for sentenced state custody and federal tools for federal or immigration custody.

Roster searches are for current jail custody. They do not prove guilt, do not show every released person, and do not replace court case records. Haysi Facility Contact

The Haysi contact number is the facility-specific line for custody and inmate service questions. Public lobby hours were not found in the official research, so call before traveling. The street address, scanned personal-mail box, and legal mail or money-order address are not interchangeable. Use the correct address for the task.

Haysi Video Visits

Haysi uses the SWVRJA Smart Communications video visitation system. Remote visits are posted for Monday through Sunday in three windows. A visit must be scheduled 24 hours ahead and may be scheduled as far as two weeks ahead. Remote sessions last 15 minutes and cost $0.33 per minute. Visitors must be on the inmate's approved list, must show valid ID, and must follow dress and conduct rules. Onsite video was listed as suspended, so onsite status should be confirmed with SWVRJA.

All sessions are subject to monitoring and recording. The inmate must stay in full uniform and face the camera. Visitors must remain seated, and small children age five or younger must stay on the visitor's lap. The rule set can restrict visitors for poor conduct, lack of ID, suspected impairment, or clothing that violates the posted standards.

Haysi Mail and Funds

Haysi ordinary mail goes through Smart Communications MailGuard. Personal mail is scanned for inmate kiosk or tablet access, and originals are destroyed after scanning. The envelope must show the inmate name and ID number. Legal mail and money orders use the Haysi facility P.O. box rather than the Seminole scanning address. Money orders must be payable to the inmate and include sender name, return address, and inmate ID.

Haysi Booking Intake

Haysi intake follows SWVRJA regional jail practice. A person may arrive through law-enforcement arrest, a served warrant, court order, or regional transfer. Staff create the jail custody record, collect identity information, record charges or holds, inventory property, complete health and safety screening, and classify the person for housing. Classification is an operational step for custody and housing. It is not a court finding.

For Tazewell County users, the facility assignment is often the key detail. The person may have a Tazewell County court case but be housed in a regional SWVRJA facility. Use the roster for custody and facility assignment, the court portals for charges and hearings, and VADOC after state-prison transfer. That separation prevents the common error of treating a regional jail roster as a complete criminal record.

Haysi Records Context

Jail authority records for Haysi should be routed to SWVRJA. Court records should be routed to the proper Virginia court system or clerk. County-held sheriff or government records follow county FOIA channels. When requesting records, identify the person, date range, facility, and exact record type.
